Director

Mr. Daniel I. Mull

Daniel (Danny) Mull is entering his 5th year as Director of Bands at South-Doyle High School. Mr. Mull was formerly the Director of Bands at Christian Academy of Knoxville, where his concert ensembles regularly received superior ratings at festival. Mr. Mull is a native of Hayesville, North Carolina and is a graduate of Western Carolina University. While attending the School of Music, the College of Fine and Performing Arts, and the College of Education and Allied Professions at WCU, Mr. Mull received his Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Science in Education, magna cum laude, with a concentration in instrumental music. During his time at WCU, Mr. Mull participated in a number of musical ensembles, including the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, Tuba/Euphonium Ensemble, Concert Choir, Men’s Chorus, and Shades of Purple Barbershop Quartet.

Mr. Mull is also a graduate of the North Carolina Teaching Fellows Program and was selected in 2013 to be part of the Inaugural Marian Drane Graham Scholars Program. His professional affiliations include Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America, the National Association for Music Education, the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association, and the Tennessee Music Education Association. Mr. Mull holds a professional teaching license with the state of Tennessee and is also a Google Certified Educator.

Mr. Mull resides in Oak Ridge, TN with his wife Candace and their son, Elijah. They are expecting another baby boy, Julian, due in September of 2024.


Percussion Instructor

Mr. Daryn Green

Daryn Green is a seasoned Percussion Educator from Knoxville, Tennessee. As an alumnus of Halls High School’s Marching Band and Indoor Percussion, his tenure spanned 2014-2018. Pursuing higher education, he attended Carson-Newman University, where he studied Music with a concentration in Business.

In 2019, Mr. Green’s musical journey led him to perform with Audio Theater, an esteemed independent world-class percussion ensemble.

With over seven years of teaching experience, Mr. Green has contributed to the percussion programs of several high schools, including Halls, Gibbs, Jefferson County, Seymour, Alcoa, and South-Doyle. Notably, at Jefferson County High School, he played a pivotal role in founding the indoor percussion program and served as the percussion arranger in the fall seasons of 2020 and 2021.

Mr. Green looks forward to his continued collaboration with the staff and students at South-Doyle High School, fostering musical excellence and innovation within the band program.


Color Guard Instructor

Ms. Lexi Thaxton

Lexi Thaxton is currently the Color Guard director for South-Doyle High School and is entering her third season with the South-Doyle Band.. She moved to Knoxville from Southern California, where she practiced and performed color guard for 8 seasons, all taught by members and coaches of award winning drum corps and winter guards such as Gold and Diamante.

She is currently attending college here in Knoxville, where she is studying to become a teacher.
